What is FCS?

Family and Consumer Sciences is the field of study focused on the science and the art of living and working well in our complex world.

Students in grades 8-12 at Cherokee Junior High/High School have the opportunity to enroll in a Family and Consumer Sciences Course. All 9th grade students at CHS are required to take Personal Financial Literacy in the FCS Program.

 

Courses in Family and Consumer Sciences align with career clusters and pathways developed by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. Our FCS Department offers courses in the following career clusters and pathways:

  • Education and Training - Teaching/Training

  • Health Sciences - Therapeutic Services

  • Hospitality & Tourism - Restaurant & Food/Beverage Services

  • Human Services - Family & Community Services

​The following courses are available on a rotational basis in the Cherokee FCS Department:

  • Career Orientation

  • Culinary Basics

  • FACS Basics (8th Grade Only)

  • Human Growth and Development

  • Lead Oklahoma

  • Leadership and Management

  • Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness

  • Personal Financial Literacy
