Career Connection

In 2022, four Cherokee FCCLA members attended the Future Teacher Day at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. These members had the opportunity to learn about scholarships and grants for education majors, housing options, attend two workshops of their choice pertaining to planning and carrying out lesson plans, and toured the campus.

In 2019, Cherokee FCCLA had members who attended the Oklahoma FCCLA/Oklahoma City Thunder Leadership Day and the Disney Youth Education Series.

The Oklahoma FCCLA/Oklahoma City Thunder Leadership Day gave members the opportunity to hear Thunder executives and employees share their experience working for the Thunder Organization and qualities and skills they believed were important for young adults to develop in order to be career-ready. Members were also given the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session.

The Disney Youth Education Series at Disneyland gave members a behind the scenes look at how the Disney Corporation is structured and managed. Cherokee FCCLA Members attended either the Disney Culinary Arts session or the Disney Creating a Leadership Legacy session. The culinary arts session took members backstage in many different culinary facilities in the Disneyland Park. The members also completed a "Chopped" style challenge where they were tasked with developing a hypothetical new menu item for Disneyland's newest restaurant, Lamplight Lounge. The Leadership Legacy session students learned how to develop their own leadership legacy, become confident in their ability to accomplish goals and be motivated to achieve the impossible. They were challenged to discover their personal brand, develop core values, have the courage to step out of their comfort zones and understand the importance of diversity as they explored the park and experienced exciting attractions.
